Why Changing the Resolution?
Whether it is necessary to change the resolution depends on your application requirements.
The higher the resolution, the bigger the images that are produced by the capture hardware and stored on your disk or transmitted through the network.
If what the camera observes requires a high level of detail, it may be useful to select FRAME or FIELD.
If the action and movement are important, and the small details not so important, the CIF or QCIF resolutions may prove sufficient for your application.
Setting the capture rate accordingly may be a good way to spare the disk or network resources.
If you are using multiple capture hardware devices or multiple instances of the Euresys source filter, the total amount of data handled by your computer may exceed its capabilities (bus bandwidth, CPU processing power, etc.). It may be better to reduce the resolution or the capture rate, or even both.
To estimate the image size and stream bit rates, refer to Bit Rates for Uncompressed Output Formats.
